Take a Portland, OR folk band, add a photographer and her whole camera cache, load them up on eggs, bacon and coffee, throw them into an unmarked white van headed for Mt. Hood and this is just a taste of what you’ll get.
These are some bokeh panoramas that we fired off during the day, but there is much more goodness to come, including medium format and 35mm film, as well as everyone taking turns getting blasted by snowballs. Stay tuned!

Holy cow! That’s some tall trees! Anywho, magic pictures, like the first and last the most. :)
These are amazing all of my sensations. Dang, Kim, you = awesome.
I love these!
LOVE the second shot. Those trees! Why people choose to live anywhere outside the Northwest continues to mystify me. Beautiful work.
the colors are amazing
[…] Pt. II by Kim on Feb 21, 2012 • No Comments Before I get to the candid stuff I wanted to share the rest of our promo shots from my day in the mountains with Harlowe and the Great North Woods. I know the snowball frames are […]
I’ve just never, ever seen such a perfect series of photos. You’re growing. I didn’t think there was room for growth but clearly there is because I’m just awestruck every time I see these.
Bronwyn, thank you so much for your kind words. I’m kind of in that place where I want to get REALLY really excited, but a tiny part of me won’t let that happen. An artist thing, for sure. :) But it’s so moving to hear comments like yours. Thank you!
Wow, these are so beautiful! I’m especially smitten with the comparison in the second photo with how magnificent those trees are.
that second shot is album cover material.
great work as usual.
Wow, those trees are so breathtaking. Lovely compostions. You really used the space well :)
Delicious northwest shots!!! Drooling over here.
This is SO perfect for the band! Great promotional shots, Kim!
YES. THIS IS SO AMAZING. YES YES YES.
(No, Flickr, I need this in all caps!)
Loooving these! Can’t wait to see more!
Chris should really be in a boy band.
really love that last photo, but my god! that second photo is magic.
The band formerly known as Harlowe and the Great North Woods is now "DFO" (Douglas Fir Overdrive).

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/yourcoffee] It was incredible out there! We just randomly found this meadow on an off-street from the highway, too. It was completely untouched… Until we ran through it and threw snowballs and made snow angels of course. :)
This is… wow… I’ve never seen so small people by so big trees before.
my ideas were in line with the band leader and we were so excited. but then everyone else vetoed it for other shots. it all worked out awesome in the end though.
so excited to see your shots of their band. i need to check out their music now…have been meaning to.
[https://www.flickr.com/photos/cararosephotos] That’s a bummer, Cara. :[ Fortunately, the ideas I had were very much in line with what they had in mind, too. I like to describe days like this as more of a collaboration than a photo shoot. But knowing each other and being friends first definitely contributed to how comfortable we were with getting ideas across and executing them. I totally recognize what a rare case that is, which is why this was my first foray into band photography. :)
THIS is EXACTLY what I had in mind when I shot my band photos back in November, in Colorado, with mountain backdrops. They ended up not liking the shots I did like this because I guess they wanted their faces to be seen! I hope Harlowe loves this one as much as I do.
