The Bike on Valencia

May 11, 2011

I mentioned this bike in a previous post – I stumbled upon it at the top of the hill on 21st and Valencia during our last day in SF. Normally I don’t mix film and digital in posts, but I fired off rounds with all three cameras and thought it would be fun to show the results side-by-side. I’ve always enjoyed when Alice does this in her film vs. digital posts, so here’s my take:

On the D700

On the Rolleiflex

On the Diana+

Camera: Nikon D700
Lens: Nikkor 85mm f/1.8

Camera: Rolleiflex 2.8C
Film: Fuji Reala 100 (thanks Diyosa!)

Camera: Diana+
Lens: Diana+ 75mm
Film: Rollei Retro 100
Scanned from a negative developed by Blue Moon Camera & Machine

[…] really enjoyed the last time I did this – mixing three variations of the same scene, all shot with different cameras. Breaking rules […]

awesome! I love the colors.

[…] first roll of Reala, in fact. The photo of Jess & Colby is just a few steps away from “the Bike,” and the last four were shot while dawdling in front of Tartine, minutes away from saying […]

I love these! The diana one is my fave!

Very beautiful!

(add me as a contact if you want :)

oh wow these are gorgeous!

Omg you use the word "goober". I call Pumpkin a "Goober" all time. My roomies used to tease me endlessly!

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/simplystardust] It has a basket, albeit, a metal one. When I think of roses and bikes and rusty iron gates I definitely think wicker basket. Regarding colorful bikes, though… Let me just say, I have a red bike and a blue helmet. Yeah, didn’t really think that one out, always feelin’ like a goober when I go out on my bike. Hah. :)

ah, cool! i think in the film shots, the highlights are more subdued. man, amazing colors all around though.

i would love to bike but would probably get killed in this city within a minute of owning a bike. x_x

Seriously. I want to put a basket on this bike and put my camera and freshly picked flowers in it asap.

I thought a pale yellow Schwinn would be the dream bike, but oh, oh no. This one takes the cake.

Favvoooriiiiite pooooost.

stunning, all of them

oooh love the film and digital comparison! thanks! such charm!

Nice! It’s fun to see the mood shift with all the different cameras/films.

I want that bike . . . like, now! haha :)

love the feel to both the digital and film images!

I know. I wanted to steal it and smuggle it aboard the plane, haha. I was shocked to see a U-lock attached to the frame – I thought for sure this bike had sat in this same spot for ages, but I guess someone actually rides it. Cute.
