From Where I Shoot Film

April 13, 2012

When Chris looks at photos from my childhood, he has a certain endearing nickname for me… Dirt Child. This is due to a number of things, like the fact that I grew up poor, in a trailer park, and pretty much ran wild half-naked in the dirt and grass with my brothers. As a result I’ve grown pretty reluctant toward shoes. I love them as much as the next girl, but in the winter time you’ll always hear me groaning about how my feet feel like they’re in prison.

And socks?! Ugh, don’t get me started!

Luckily, the best way to take your mind off of your pain — be it real or imagined ;) — is to divert your attention elsewhere. What better way than with a camera in hand?

Like most girls, I can’t help it… I love to take photos of my feet. Phew! There, I said it! But for me, it goes deeper than just a pretty snapshot of my totally awesome kicks (those Red Converse? I’ve had them for over 10 years!). Sometimes when I’m out and about I look down and can’t imagine a more perfect summary of my day. Whether I’m standing in a puddle, a patch of snow or on a friend’s porch, I can always remember exactly where I was and what I was doing on the day I clicked it.

This is a bird’s eye view of where I was between December and March, with my trusty F100 on deck. They’re ordered somewhat chronologically. And yes, before you ask — my winter wardrobe really is that boring. :)

I take a lot of photos of my feet on wedding days, but I have the excuse of using the photo to check the time on my digital camera. Still, I feel like within my raw folders are all of these hidden easter eggs of my feet and shoes, sometimes hurriedly waling and sometimes with my toes inward anxiously waiting for whatever is happening next.

You know, seeing these all together in one post is what makes these photos especially awesome. Who knew one could tell a story by simply pointing a camera at their feet :)

You know, I’d take way more shots like these if I wore way cuter shoes and didn’t wear bootcut jeans (the flare at the hem just looks not great from that perspective). otherwise, i always adore “from where i shoot” shots!

Oh, I love this so so so much! I don’t take nearly enough feet shots. Maybe I need to start!

oh boy!
I admit it, I looove taking photos of my feet as well!!! it feels so goo to to finally come out ;)
