Harlowe and the Alberta Rose Theater

November 12, 2010

Wednesday night I got to see Harlowe play at the Alberta Rose Theater. They opened up for Kelli Scarr, whom I’d never heard before, but she was a delight. So refreshing to hear a gal that can sing, and I mean really SING!

Both bands rocked the house, and Andrew got a shout out from Ms. Scarr for being a violin player with a Giants hat. “That’s a pretty hot look,” she said. Hehe :P

So go on and give ’em a listen, and maybe I’ll see you at a future show!

haha. That is a pretty awesome combination.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/mayrock] I listened to his stuff like Taking Tiger Mountain… in high school but it was definitely a casual affair, too. I’ll be sure to ask Chris to swing by here and leave his input about the new album. :)

Great minds think alike on Eno! =) I dig the ambient genre, and he’s pretty much the father of that style — but I didn’t really get into him either until this year (after casually appreciating his stuff for a long time — like his soundtracks and collaborations with people like U2).

if you get the chance, you should ask Chris is he got the new Eno album Small Craft on a Milk Sea and what he thinks of it. Personally, I think it’s very, very impressive.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/22755514@N03] I gave up on freelensing after one 20-minute attempt and switched to Alien Skin’s Bokeh 2 plugin. It beats getting dust in my camera / spending $2k on a tilt-shift lens. But thanks :)

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/mayrock] Hah! That is so funny because Chris has gotten into Brian Eno in a huge way this year. That keyboard is a Fender Rhodes and apparently is so heavy two people can BARELY move it together. Geez.

Cool! Chris looking very Brian Eno-ish over there. I dig his retro/groovy Ray Manzarek-esque keyboard.

BTW: Kudos to the designer of the Harlowe website — looks great!

nifty. always nice to find some new-to-me music! also, good for them for just getting out there and doing their thing. hope to catch a show sometime.

Is this free lensing? Damn good if it is!
