Albina Library

November 4, 2010

One of the things I love most about Portland is the library. I’ve always enjoyed the idea of a library, but it never seemed that convenient in the other cities I’ve lived in. They were always either too far away from my house, or had a poor selection – or both.

Portland, on the other hand, has one of the top rated library systems in the country. I can’t remember the last time I even considered buying a book (actually, I can: it was the day Mockingjay came out and I bought the entire hardcover set. Oops! Worth it). You know all those graphic novels Chris and I have been reading? Yeah, we check them out of the library. Booyah!

Pictured here is my local branch, situated next to Whole Foods at Fremont Place. It’s a sardine can compared to the epic downtown location, but I like it. I actually have a couple books that go back next week and I’m not even halfway through*, so I’m calling a ban on all distractions until I make some decent progress in them.

* Bite Me by Christopher Moore and The Tao of Photography by Philippe L. Gross.

[https://www.flickr.com/photos/onemoreplease] You bet. I actually heard about it from Nathiya‘s blog!

Just checked our library for Tao book & reserved it! Thanks for the tip.

If you can’t tell, I love a good library system!

i love libraries! the problem is we dont have many very good ones here in the philippines. thats why when i saw the public library in new york, i practically shat on my pants looking at how huge the place was hahaha

Bite Me is awesome! Have you read other Christopher Moore books (especially the ones in that series)? He’s one of my favorites.

I have a TON of his books but have only read a handful. He’s definitely a favorite of mine, though I have learned to take him in small doses or else I get a little burned out from the absurdity of it all (however hilarious it always is!). And YES, the Bloodsucking Fiends series is one of my favorite!

I felt that way after Fluke. My absolute favorite of his (so far) is A Dirty Job.

Libraries are so underrated. I adore them. The only time I buy a book is to show some support for a favorite author (really, pretty much only Robert Jordan).

gosh i love your medium format shots.

you give me the urge to visit portland!

Thanks Alice! Portland is a far cry from NYC but that’s what I love about it. Such a sweet, laid back little city. If you ever do come for a visit, let me know and we can meet up at one (or many ;) of Portland’s best cafes!

I LOVE the library!! great photo!

Three cheers for libraries! And the Multnomah County system really is one of the best–me and some of my Brooklyn pals dream of working there someday, but it’s so rad no one ever wants to leave so they are pretty much NEVER hiring. sigh.

Maybe someone will die soon, thus opening up a spot for you. I mean, of old age, of course! :P
