Those Willows

The best way to get to know someone? Jumping in a van with them for four weeks of adventuring through a foreign country. That’s how I first got to know Jack and Mel from Those Willows while we were all on tour in Italy with Robin Bacior last year.

Earlier this spring we recreated a bit of that magic when I hopped on board for a session with their new bassist, Kyle, who moved to Portland from Michigan mere weeks before our shoot on the coast. I jumped in the car, introduced myself and then we drove 2 hours to Astoria, OR where they played a live set for KMUN Coast Community Radio, then a full set at Sou’Wester Lodge. We walked the Astoria pier, got drunk and did karaoke with the locals before driving home at the crack of dawn, all in the span of less than 24 hours. Somewhere in between all of that we took some amazing photos on the beach.
