Your Mom

May 10, 2009

Happy Mother’s Day to all the awesome mommas out there! If you haven’t called, emailed or otherwise told your mom you love her today, you’d better!

Unfortunately, I only get to spend the day with my mother-in-law, but she is equally as awesome as my own mom. We’re making bean burgers, mashed potatoes and asparagus for dinner tonight and hopefully going on a walk around my favorite place, the Clover Creek Preserves.

The photo above is my mom, Debbie, when she was in the army. Because of car troubles she can’t join us for Mother’s Day, but I know she’s having a relaxing day, enjoying her five minutes of fame (her painting was recently censored in a show, 64 comments on the news piece, wow!) and anticipating the season finale of Amazing Race. Hope it’s a good one for you, ma!

Wow… I read through like half of those comments on there. I can’t believe how people still react to this kind of stuff. The oddest was someone saying “why don’t I come in and put cardboard penis cutouts all over your house?” Then again, I think your mom’s paintings are awesome. Go Debbie!

I know, it’s pretty sick what some of those people are saying, but seriously? That’s Redding and that’s how a lot of people in this town think. Thanks for the moral support, lord knows she needs it, hah :)

WOW, how scandalous! Your mother’s art is eliciting more attention than i thought it would. Especially from the collective of artists who openly support communication and the medium. GEEZE. But in a way, good for her. I think covering it up makes it more perverse… more provocative somehow. And she’s right… censoring it only encourages people to pay more attention to it. HA!

Totally! I’m sure so many more people have lifted up the piece of paper and looked at her work that normally would’ve just walked right by while barely affording a glance had it been uncovered.
