Body of Water

March 4, 2013

For someone who’s terrified of open water, I spent a lot of time hanging out around the rivers, lakes and oceans of the Pacific Northwest this summer. It always seems like such a novel idea to pack up a car full of people and spend a day on the water, but when I get there the 3-year-old in me that got caught by the undertow in San Francisco is always like, “It’s cool, guys. I’ll just hang out on the shore with my cameras.”

That’s not to say I don’t have a great time. In fact, my best summer memories from 2012 involved planting myself down on a rock and having quiet chats while watching the waves flutter by.

And though I may never go in much deeper than my waist, I will always appreciate the inherent poetry of rivers and oceans, and the catharsis they bring us. I will always love photographing bodies in the water.
